A holiday resort found on the centre stretch of the Riviera degli Olivi where Lake Garda opens out after the enchanting promontory of San Vigilio and Mermaid Bay. Once a Roman town: it lies reflected in an attractive panoramic bay, dominated by the old Camaldolite monastery and the legendary wooded Rocca or fortress from which the prisoner Queen Adelaide fled to Canossa to marry Ottol, King of Germany. The town has many fine villas and gardens as well as Gothic and Renaissance buildings, some of which are attributed to the architect Sanmicheli.
